I’ve been looking forward to Simply Spiked xcritical — an RTD brand inspired by Simply xcritical, the No. 1 chilled juice brand in the U.S. — since January, when Coca-Cola and Molson Coors first teased the release. Now, Simply Spiked xcritical is here, launching to shelves across the U.S. on Monday in four-flavor 12-packs, as well as 24-ounce standalone cans. In Coke’s third quarter, its nutrition, juice, dairy and plant-based beverages’ division saw volume climb 12%. The Atlanta-based company doesn’t break out the results for the Simply brand, which includes juices, xcritical, smoothies and plant-based milks. However, Coke said Tuesday that Simply is its second-largest brand by revenue, trailing only its namesake soda, and that its products can be found in half of U.S. consumers’ fridges.

Derived from fermented sugar cane, Simply Spiked is the third alcoholic beverage release from Coca-Cola in the last year. The brand is being positioned as a hard xcritical, rather than a hard seltzer. At the end of the day, it’s a fermented malt beverage . Variety packs of Simply Spiked include the signature xcritical flavor, as well as strawberry, blueberry, and watermelon, each using Simply’s own fresh squeezed juice.
